About us

Our adventure began when we met in Australia in 2011. Since moving back to North Yorkshire, the adventures continued with highlights including winning Welcome to Yorkshire's Pub of the Year, achieving entry into the Michelin Guide, and winning Pub Food of the Year before moving on and starting By Harri & Ed, catering for all events in North Yorkshire, from private intimate dinner parties to weddings, christenings and big birthdays.

Thank you so much Sandra for cutting Tommys hair this morning! Absolute superstar! No more mullet/jimmy saville vibes!

Update alert…the tearooms will be CLOSED tomorrow for dining in (Thursday 16th) July. We will be serving hot/cold drinks and cakes/counter goodies on a takeaway basis only which will be available to enjoy outside on our picnic benches and to take round the gardens.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but we have a large booking taking over inside for the day! The good news is the forecast looks blooming lovely so who wants to be inside anyways!

Anyways no one will see this as you will all be enjoying the football…or not!

We are FULLY BOOKED for our Thai event this evening…BUT…the bar will be open from 5pm-8pm if you fancied a pint or 3! Pop on down for a cheeky couple and start the weekend the right way!

Thailand meets Yorkshire for our next evening event of the season. On Friday 12th June @chef_ed_allen will be preparing a Thai Banquet for you all to enjoy.

To make a booking, please follow the link under the events tab on our website. If you fancy enjoying in the comfort of your own home, you can do by ordering a Take Away for collection between 5 and 6 on the evening (with a 10% discount).

Who’s excited? We are delighted to announce the FIRST of our Pop Up Evenings of the season and it is….drum roll please…Spanish Tapas!

Spain meets Yorkshire for a one off special evening at @yorkshirelavender on Friday 8th May. @chef_ed_allen will be preparing a selection of Spanish Tapas (hopefully al fresco) for you all to enjoy alongside our Bar where Sangria and Spanish Wine will be available to purchase on the night. Our last Pop-Ups have been sold out events so please ensure you get in touch fast to avoid missing out. The evening will commence at 6pm with the Bar open from 530pm so please ensure prompt arrival to avoid missing out on any of the dishes!

Tickets are £40pp for the full 8 courses and are available to purchase on our website under the Events page. Those on our mailing list have had a headstart so tickets are limited. If you want to get the exclusive goss and early access to our pop up events, please join our mailing list.

Whilst we love a wander around the beautiful fields and grounds of @yorkshirelavender, we thought whilst daddy @chef_ed_allen was busy working, we would venture to nearby @theflowerbelt in Helmsley for a spot of tulip picking. If you haven’t been before would highly recommend to all. Stunning views and a truly wholesome way to spend a few hours with the family.

There are plenty of facilities onsite and it is only a short walk to the nearby market town of Helmsley. Dog friendly and pram friendly too!

Weather not playing ball…not to fear! We have lots on offer to keep the little ones entertained including our own Kids Activity sheet with crayons included.

We also have a menu for little ones including a Mini Picnic and scoops of our delicious homemade Ice-Cream! Nom nom!

For the grown ups we have a full menu available from small plates to sweet treats too alongside some delicious beverages including a yummy Provence Rosé which is perfect to enjoy on any occasion!

We are open TODAY for Bank Holiday Monday from 10am-3pm. Pop on down to get some yummy grub - brunch served 10-1130, lunch 1130-3.

This bad boy is @chef_ed_allen’s Smashed Avocado with our in house Toasted Sourdough with Rocket, Sriracha and Sesame Salt available on our brunch menu. Opted for a side of @sykeshousefarm bacon of course but you can order some Smoked Salmon from our fishmonger @fowlersofyork to accompany or enjoy as is suitable for vegans.

Just a little note to say THANK YOU to all of you who came to our Fish Night last night. We sold out and it was a fab evening. Better get the boys in training so they can one day pop on those chef whites to help @chef_ed_allen in the kitchen!

Apologies for the delayed announcement regarding our new venture…we were a tad sidetracked but delighted to welcome the new addition to the @byharri_n_ed family - Freddie James Allen born on Thursday 19th March at 12.14pm.

After a long stint in York Hospital we are finally home and will be revealing our exciting plans for our opening next Wednesday 1st April tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who have been such superstars helping Ed and myself over the last few weeks with Tommy and setting up the bistro - you are all legends!

Getting the gang back together!

For those of you that remember our pub days, you may recall the delicious coffee we used to serve which came from @lontoncoffee.

We are delighted to say we have teamed up with them again for our new venture and created our own blend using only the finest ingredients. Thank you @newsome_sh for organising and providing some staff training yesterday. We are also excited to say that if you like the blend, you will be able to enjoy the coffee in the comfort of your own home with one of our retail packs…nom nom!

You know you’re getting older when you start getting more excited about coffee than gin…well almost!

Training sessions have begun for our latest venture…Tommy is learning fast on our pizza night Fridays!

However he says he is too busy to join the @byharri_n_ed team with his play commitments and busy social life so we are looking for staff to join our team!

First and foremost, we are so sorry for the radio silence recently, we have been busy little beavers getting our exciting new project underway.

The bad news is that we will NOT be attending @sheriffhuttonvillagemarket this Sunday.

The good news is that all will be revealed NEXT week when we announce our new venture which is due to be open from 1st April (yes April Fools Day and no it is not a joke)!

Delivery for all orders will take place on Tuesday 23rd December with collection available on Monday 22nd. All will be made by our own @chef_ed_allen of course with full cooking instructions provided. We only use local suppliers for our produce so all meat will be from @sykeshousefarm and veg from @dalesthechefschoice.

We’ve had a busy time here and cannot thank you all enough for the support at the Pop Up Pub in Terrington last Friday and @terringtonhall.school ‘s Christmas Fair on Wednesday.

YIPPEE!! We survived our FIRST outing in our new baby and what a fabulous evening it was too! Super well organised, the weather behaved and added bonus…we SOLD OUT!

Now onto the next order of business…it’s LAST ORDERS time for delivery on Friday 7th November. November Menu now LIVE! We will be doing a delivery of @chef_ed_allen’s grub once a month alongside the market and pop ups. Deliveries will take place on a Friday and all dishes are freshly prepared therefore the majority is suitable for freezing. Full cooking instructions also provided.

Ed’s infamous Pies are back on the menu and we have over 30 Pies on order so far…They are freshly prepared and therefore great for the freezer in particular with the festive period coming up - a good idea to stock up for when those friend and relatives pop round!
